Recently I went to see Tar at HOTA (Home Of The Arts) at the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.

And in short: One of the best roles ever, I suppose! I read some of her interviews as well! The Sydney Girl & True Aussie … living with the Playright Upton and a few children mostly in Sydney Australia.

Hope to see her one day at the Beaches of Burleigh Queensland for sure …. And I know I will recognize her immediately … and her husband as well.

And I will certainly never forget the name of her dog, as I love dogs and remember their names more than the ones of their owners …

Cate Blanchett and Husband Upton and their Ausssie Portfolio (Gossip Magazine)

So why this list? I have seen quite a few films over the last 60 years, however an overview with good films and very actors is pretty hard to find because of genre, personal taste or priorities.

Like reading good books I do not really wish to know before about plot or characters or what happens when, it is more about style and how a novel is crafted – gutes Handwerk in fact! And films must be good or the actors must be good!

So in short, my little overview here is neither culturul nor of any special value or MUST HAVE SEEN films, it is more about well crafted films by good directors and very good actors.

And not really interested in James Bond ? No worries at all, I can even watch old ones from 1964 or so like GOLDFINGER, because I have not seen them for ages and completely forgotten the action – not the actor for sure.

So it is about having fun and a little bit like a nostalgic movie night with chips and popcorn and a cold one a glass of RED – for sure ….

Have fun and enjoy my list of suggestions and check them out: Where you might ask? Well, not a Binge watcher I have Apple TV and Netflix and Amazon Prime … And this is a good start for any of you making use of the search function by actor or Director or Title.

Have started the 5 Bourne films with Matt Damon and found them why on Amazon Prime?

Because I searched by actor Franka Potente and found 5 good action films, might even order the books written by Robert Ludlum!

More on Literature and Film: Tim Winton & Ian McEwan

Tim Winton and Ian McEwan have had their writings adapted into films and have collaborated directly with film directors.

Tim Winton’s novels have been adapted into several films, primarily focusing on his Australian works. For example, his novel “Breath” (Amazone Prime) was adapted into a film in 2017, with Simon Baker directing and starring in the film. The story explores themes of risk-taking and self-discovery against the backdrop of surfing culture in Western Australia. Winton’s novel “Dirt Music” was also adapted into a film in 2020, directed by Gregor Jordan and starring Kelly Macdonald and Garrett Hedlund. This film portrays a love affair set in the remote landscapes of Western Australia.

Ian McEwan’s works have also been adapted into notable films. One of the most well-known adaptations is the film “Atonement,” based on McEwan’s novel of the same name. Directed by Joe Wright, the film was released in 2007 and received critical acclaim, earning multiple Academy Award nominations. “Atonement” is a poignant story set against the backdrop of World War II, exploring themes of guilt, redemption, and the consequences of one’s actions. McEwan’s novel “On Chesil Beach” was also adapted into a film in 2017, directed by Dominic Cooke. It portrays a young couple’s honeymoon night in the early 1960s and explores themes of sexual repression and societal expectations.

These film adaptations showcase the ability of both authors to translate their compelling stories and richly drawn characters onto the big screen, collaborating with directors to bring their narratives to life in visual form.
