Credit phb 🌍 Irma Stern German Expressionism:• Stern’s early influences came from the Brücke group in Berlin, who rejected academic realism in favour of raw emotion, bold colour, and distorted form. She absorbed their intensity but applied it to African and Mediterranean subjects, creating a hybrid style. South African Modernism:• In the 1920s–40s, South Africa’s art world was still dominated by conservative, European‑style landscapes and portraits. Stern’s work was radical in both style and subject matter — she painted African sitters with dignity and individuality at a time when colonial attitudes often reduced them to stereotypes. Global Modernist Networks:• Exhibited in London, Paris, and Berlin alongside other modernists. Her travel journals and paintings brought African imagery into European galleries, influencing perceptions of the continent’s cultures. 🔍 Why Her Work Still Resonates Cultural Bridge: She navigated — and sometimes clashed with — the tensions between European modernism and African identity. Art Market Impact: Stern’s paintings remain among the highest‑selling works by African artists at auction. Contemporary Relevance: Modern curators revisit her work to discuss representation, colonial history, and the role of women. More here soon … Brücke Museum Dahlem in Berlin. ChatGPT & AI

Am following mostly the discussion about Higher Education. 75 % of young people in most 1st world countries are using AI Tools. Staff at High Schools and Unis are trying to cope, but are mostly failing, according to their own judgement & perceptions. High Schools and Unis are not prepared at all. The problems are more or less ignored. Reading Harari or following his general campaign about Aliens (Metapher) raises serious concerns, however! Credit phb Gist of my own understanding: The Gap is growing between Ignorance and smart use of AI. It is in short not a question of using AI or not: It is a question of HOW young students are using AI. Linked Updated by Blogger P H Bloecker Thu 14 Aug 2025.

Sorry

What is a word you feel that too many people use?words A word once spoken, cannot be called back. So my first choice would be sorry. However the context and situation are most important. Why? In some countries, the word sorry has become part of the culture. The effect is, people say sorry not to apologize or fix a problem or relationship, it is just a word to get away with what they did or what happened. Just an unimportant incident, that would not need a sorry in other cultures / countries at all. In some relationships the word sorry does not exist! The hardest word for some men. (Elton John) In short: The cultural use of sorry in NZ and Australia is generally said an act of being polite, instead of rude. Which countries - in your mind - stand more for being rude, not polite? What happens, when education fails? When adequate behaviour is not learnt? More here soon to come! #culture #gaps https://videopress.com/v/oA3AEs4a?resizeToParent=true&cover=true&preloadContent=metadata&useAverageColor=true Line Dance Country | Credit phb From Candlelight to Boot‑Scoot: Two Rooms, One Rhythm of Belonging I. Jena, Winter 1799Snow fretted the panes of Caroline Schlegel’s home, muffling the town beyond. Inside, the room was an orchestration of voices — Goethe’s measured cadences, Novalis’ luminous musings, Caroline’s deft interjections that kept the air alive. Around the table, thought moved like a dance: philosophy circling poetry,…

Leonardo

🖋️ Leonardo da Vinci: A Tuscan Tapestry of Light and Inquiry observing Nature and people in action.A revised Blog Vignette by Peter H Bloecker (Retired) Watch the SBS Film Leonarda da Vinci Ahead of his time ... Linked Copilot prompted by phb Nestled in the folds of olive-silvered hills near Vinci, Tuscany, a boy traced bird wings in the dirt. His fingers, smudged with fig sap and curiosity, would one day redraw the contours of art, science, and imagination. Leonardo da Vinci’s story began in Anchiano—amid the scent of sun-warmed thyme and cicada hum. 🎨 Apprenticeship in Florence: Where Light Met HandAt fifteen, Leonardo entered the studio of Andrea del Verrocchio. Marble dust settled into the creases of his palms as he carved alongside masters, each chisel stroke an invitation to precision and grace. The studio swelled with the aroma of linseed oil and plaster, the quiet scratch of charcoal on canvas. It was here he painted a single angel—luminescent, gentle—he watched and observed, fascinated by nature. Eager to learn. 🌿 Nature as Archive and OracleTuscan summers taught him anatomy in the curvature of leaves, flight from swallows chasing the horizon. He studied vines as vascular systems and dragonflies as engineers of air. The bitter tang of olive oil on rustic bread became a meditation; Tuscany fed him not just meals, but metaphors. He was not only curious, he asked why…

Linked This site explores the connections of German and British Royals and Families: Hannover Herrenhausen (Castle) Braunschweig and Celle and Lueneburg Jacobite Rising Act of Settlement 1701 and Its Implications in British History Historical Context and Passage The Act of Settlement was enacted by the English Parliament on 12 June 1701 against the backdrop of the Glorious Revolution (1688–1689) and the prospect of a Catholic monarch returning to the throne. With William III childless and Anne’s only surviving child deceased, Parliament moved to secure a Protestant succession and curb royal prerogative. Key Provisions It limited the succession to “the heirs of [Electress Sophia of Hanover] being Protestants,” barring Roman Catholics or anyone who married one from inheriting the crown. It required the monarch to join in communion with the Church of England. It forbade the sovereign to leave England, Scotland, or Ireland—or to wage war for territories not belonging to the English crown—without Parliament’s consent. Bundeswehr
